Refugees in Greece: A First-hand View, Friday, June 23, 11:45am-1:00pm
In the summer of 2016, local business owner Rumi Shazhad traveled to Greece to volunteer his time helping people in the refugee camps. Join us to hear his firsthand account, including pictures, of what it is like there, how people are handling the challenges and their hopes for the future. Rumi is a co-founder of New Hope Valley Assisted Living and Memory Care in Saginaw and Bay City. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Ohio Wesleyan University and his MBA in Policy Studies and Finance from the University of Chicago. After working for 15 years in investment banking and corporate strategy roles, Rumi founded New Hope Partners to meet the needs of seniors in their communities. His aim was to make it more than just a facility for the aged, but a place that would bring vitality and hope to those in need of assistance while continuing purposeful and meaningful lives. As a result, they have received ratings in the top 1% of the nation for care. Rumi lives in Saginaw Township with his wife, Jennifer and their children Alia, Amaya, and Jibran.
