United Way of Midland County’s community campaign has reached an exciting milestone – 99% of its $4.4 million goal. With continued support from donors, workplace campaigns, and corporate partners, United Way is on track to not only to reach the goal but potentially surpass it, driving even greater impact for our neighbors.
While community investments in more than 50 programs at 25 local non-profits remain vital to United Way’s mission, dollars are only one part of the story. United Way plays a unique and critical role in creating a stronger, more resilient community through:
- Community Convening & Listening: Bringing partners, neighbors, and stakeholders together to identify needs, align efforts, and build shared solutions.
- Sparking Innovation: Testing new approaches, piloting creative solutions, and supporting ideas that respond to emerging challenges.
- Volunteerism & Engagement: Mobilizing thousands of volunteers to support nonprofits, schools, and community projects.
- Education & Awareness: Helping the community understand local issues, from mental health and housing to financial stability and early childhood development.
- Measuring Outcomes: Ensuring programs deliver meaningful results, strengthening transparency and accountability.
- Capacity Building: Providing training, expertise, and strategic support that help nonprofits operate more effectively.
- Data & Research: Analyzing trends, identifying root causes, and guiding agencies toward informed, community-driven solutions.
These efforts amplify every donated dollar and strengthen the entire health and human services ecosystem.
Partner agencies say the impact goes far beyond funding:
“Who else is looking at and addressing what the community needs and bringing organizations together to solve those issues? During times of uncertainty, United Way steadies the boat for all of us… United Way is there as either a beacon of hope or steadying the ship.”
– Jennifer Grace, President & CEO, Arnold Center
“There are so many other benefits to being a United Way partner. Many of United Way’s partners are also Hidden Harvest partners. The food we rescue and redistribute makes every United Way dollar go even further. They invest in us, and we’re able to invest food – like $2 million worth of food – into other partners. That network is a beautiful part of United Way.”
– Sam McKenzie, President & CEO, Hidden Harvest
“The benefit beyond the dollars is the connections they create. The people we serve have complex needs, and United Way helps us coordinate with other agencies to support employment, prevention, housing, and more. These partnerships help extend the quality of life for the people we serve.”
– Sam Price, President & CEO, Ten Sixteen Recovery Network
United Way partners across Midland County echo these themes: collaboration, shared learning, strengthened programs, and collective problem-solving.
This cross-agency coordination is one of United Way’s greatest strengths. By connecting nonprofits, identifying gaps, investing in long-term solutions, and aligning resources where they’re needed most, United Way helps ensure that the community’s social safety net remains strong.
This is what it looks like when a community comes together to lift one another up. Every connection made, every volunteer hour, every shared idea, and every dollar invested helps build the Midland County we all want—one where families are stable, seniors are supported, and kids have hope and opportunity. That collective spirit is what fuels United Way’s mission.
