When the Pain Doesn’t GoAway: Chronic Pain Self-Management Program
October 15, 22, 29 andNovember 5, 19, 26 from 2:00-4:30pm

The ChronicPain Self-Management Program is a new evidence-based program based on theformat of other highly successful Stanford programs. Classes are highlyparticipative, where mutual support and success build confidence in one’sability to manage health and maintain an active and fulfilling life. Meeting2.5 hours once per week for six weeks and led by two trained leaders, subjectscovered include:
· Techniquesto deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, isolation, and poor sleep
· Appropriateexercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility and endurance
· Appropriateuse of medications
· Communicatingeffectively with family, friends and health professionals
· Nutrition
· Pacingactivity and rest
· Howto evaluate new treatments
Eachparticipant in the workshop receives a copy of the companion books, Living aHealthy Life With Chronic Conditions, 3rd Edition and Chronic PainWorkbook. The Self-Management Program will not conflict with existingprograms or treatment. It is designed to enhance regular treatment.Participants gain the skills to coordinate all the things needed to managetheir own health, as well as to help them keep active in their lives.
