Lunchtime Learners, The Great Race, Friday, September 18th, 11:45am – 1:00pm, Trailside Center at 4700 Dublin Ave., Midland.
In the summer of 1936, a 17-year old Connecticut lad designed a sailboat and built it from scratch. Little did he know that 46 years later, he and his hand-picked crew would win a first-place trophy in the prestigious Chicago to Mackinac Race. Come listen to Sanford resident Jim Manning, and his son and navigator (also named Jim), as they recall their 1982 triumph. They will also share photos and an actual video of their victory.
Aim to arrive by 11:30am in Trailside and after your table is called, take your lunch into Room 160. The talk will begin as close to 11:45am as possible and end by 1:00pm. Space is limited in the room, so please call ahead to reserve your spot and register for lunch at 633-3700. Lunches are by donation to those over 60, or $5 for those under 60.
