Once again, the Midland community demonstrated that we are Stronger Together! It is that strength in numbers and commitment to helping others that pushed the United Way campaign over goal. Hundreds of people came together on Wednesday night as part of Chamber Connection.
Rich Wells, 2016 Campaign Chairman shared with the guests, “We live in a very giving and caring community. I have lived in many places and I can tell you that Midland is by far the best place that I have lived. We knew this would be a challenging year and we set an aggressive goal of $4.5 million. I’m happy to share with you that together we exceeded our goal. Together we raised an impressive $4,613,529. This is a fantastic community and we are thankful for everyone’s support.” Rich closed with an encouraging invitation to the community, “Now, let’s do this again next year!”
The campaign was supported by over 7,200 donors and 200 local corporations and businesses. The success of the campaign is highly dependent on the hundreds of volunteers that help to raise these funds while educating and inspiring the community. United Way was able to surpass the community goal because of the diligence, creativity and passion of its volunteers. Generous support came from every corner of the community, from the major corporate supporters and retirees to local schools, municipalities, foundations and small businesses.
“The faces, needs and even the appearance of our community has certainly changed over the years,” shared Ann Fillmore, Executive Director of United Way of Midland County. “But one community value has remained the same—that caring spirit for one another and ensuring everyone has the opportunity for a good life.”
“The true value of United Way lies not in the amount of money we raise, but in the impact in our community. Our goal is to bring the people, organizations, and resources together to create impact,” shared Ann Fillmore.
