United Way of Midland’s exciting new event, the Community Colors 5k is filling up fast. Over 1,000 people have already registered for this unique colorful race that celebrates healthy living and the power of giving, advocating and volunteering. The fun run/walk will take place on September 14th at 3:00 p.m., starting at Northwood University and following the Rail Trail to the Tridge.
“We are thrilled with the response and encourage people to register soon,” shared Ann Fillmore, Executive Director of United Way of Midland County. “Registration will be limited to 1,700 in the inaugural year, to ensure a safe, fun and impactful experience for everyone.”
This community- and family-friendly event is more about celebrating and less about your finish time. With no winners or official times, the Community Colors 5k caters to everyone. You can run, jog, walk, wheel and even push strollers through. A color fest ending will take place at Chippewassee Park with live entertainment and food available for purchase. Hot air balloons from the RE/MAX Balloon Fest will also be near the finish line.
Thousands from our community will put on their white Live United T-shirt and be doused with color along the way as they learn about the needs of our community. There will also be a FREE Kids Color Obstacle Course sponsored by Members First Credit Union, where kids 10 and under can challenge themselves while getting covered with color starting at 4:00 p.m. near the Tridge.
The cost is just $15 per person or $40 for a family. Registration is open now through September 5th or until the race is full. Registration includes an event T-shirt, water bottle and color to throw. Advance registration is required to receive a T-shirt, including the Kids Color Obstacle Course.
Participants are encouraged to park at Northwood University for the start of the race. Bullock Creek schools will be providing a complimentary bus shuttle from Farmer’s Market to Northwood starting at 3:45 and running every 15 minutes until 5:30 p.m.
Don’t want to run or walk but want to join the fun? Volunteer today to throw color, help with registration or support the Kids Color Obstacle course. Visit www.govolunteernow.org to sign up. Spectators are also encouraged at the finish line, where you can join in the fun and welcome participants with a burst of color.
