United Way’s Community Colors 5k is filling up fast. Nearly 2,000 people have already registered for this unique colorful race that celebrates healthy living and the power of giving, advocating and volunteering. The fun run/walk will take place on September 13th at 10:00 a.m., starting at Northwood University and following the Rail Trail to the Tridge.

“We are thrilled with the response and encourage people to register soon,” shared Ann Fillmore, Executive Director of United Way of Midland County. “Last year’s race sold out weeks before the race date and we anticipate another record turnout.”

This community- and family-friendly event is more about celebrating and less about your finish time. With no winners or official times, the Community Colors 5k caters to everyone. You can run, jog, walk, wheel and even push strollers through the course.

The cost is just $20 per person or $50 for a family (immediate members only), with $5 per individual and $10 per family being invested into building a stronger community.

“The registration deadline has been extended to September 5th, unless the maximum of 3,000 participants is reached sooner,” shared Holly Miller, Vice President of United Way of Midland County. “We will not be able to accommodate people signing up the day of the race.”

Registration includes an event T-shirt, water bottle and color to throw! No refunds will be offered and the race will take place rain or shine.

There will also be a FREE Kids Color Obstacle Course sponsored by Members First Credit Union, where kids nine and under can challenge themselves while getting covered with color starting at 9:00 a.m. near the start line at Northwood University. Registration is required in order to receive a free T-shirt.

Participants are encouraged to park at Northwood University for the start of the race. Bullock Creek schools will be providing complimentary bus shuttle service from downtown Midland back to Northwood starting at 10:15 am and running every 5-10 minutes until noon.

Don’t want to run or walk but want to join the fun? Volunteer are needed to throw color, help with registration, set-up, tear-down and support the Kids Color Obstacle course. Visit www.govolunteernow.org to sign up. Spectators are also encouraged at the start and finish line, where you can join the fun a burst of color. Bags of color will be available for just $1.00.
