Mid-Century Modern Midland
Midland has a unique look and feel, largely due to the cohesiveness of architecture. Alden B. Dow’s work inspired other contemporary architects who adapted his style to leave their own mark on the Midland architectural landscape. Over the last several months, a team of over 30 volunteers has been canvassing more than 18,000 residences, churches and businesses to survey and document the evolution of Dow-inspired structures in this area. From there, they have been uploading photos and descriptions to an open source database. Mid-Century Modern Midland will then create walking, biking and driving tour maps highlighting the mid-century modern influence throughout the city. Join us to hear from project coordinator Carol Neff about what has been learned thus far in this incredible effort and get a taste of what is to come.
